Body Positivity refers to the assertion that all people deserve to have a positive body image, regardless of how society’s view of ideal shape, size and appearance of a particular body. Body Positivity is not just about your physical size or appearance people also mark judgements on your race, gender, sexuality and disability.

this positivity Movement started?

As the part of First Wave Feminism from the 1850s-1890s includes a movement called the “Victorian Dress Movement” that aimed to end the trend of women using corsets and tight lacing in order to fit in the societal standard of tiny waistlines at that time. This trend of tight lacing had many health risks and it’s very uncomfortable too for every women at that time. Women were mocked for their “egotism” for not following the trend, and they were criticized too for making their waistline too small if they were successful. This filled a feeling of defeat in women as their efforts to impress their male counterparts fails. In 1967, New York radio host Steve Post held a “fat-in” Movement in Central Park. He described the purpose of the event “was to protest discrimination against the fat”.
Body Positivity is not just for fat people, body positivity is a concept for every individual who don’t feel ok with their bodies they can be fat, slim or of any shape and size. In a world that convinces us that we are not good enough and needs improvement and crave for everything we think looks perfect on us and anything less than that 100% is a failure is something we have to correct in our minds

A recent study showed that, in the midst of a global Pandemic, 40% of people agreed that it would be worse to gain weight during quarantine than to become infected with Covid-19. We are spending large amount of money on either weight gain or weight loss products knowing that it’s us which are letting ourselves stuck in this toxic cycle of Dieting, gym, keto etc. Hating ourselves doesn’t change our body but definitely leads to mental stress.

The problem has never been our body, the problem is the build up image by society and culture and that is the concept we have to change. Do meditation, yoga and exercises for your mindfulness, peace and health not for any ideal body image. Shower yourself with lots of love and acceptance from your side rather than expecting the same from others.
